THE GEOARCHAEOLOGICAL PROJECT FROM AN AMATEUR'S PERSPECTIVE
This presenter was recruited to surface survey 50 units which
were defined by the presence of river bank liquefaction features which
were the result of major prehistoric earthquakes. The purpose of the
survey was to discover artifacts capable of quantifying and narrowing
the dates of major quakes prior to 1811-12. Seven sites were found in
the study units, six with datable material. A total of 14 sites were
reported to the Glenn A. Black Laboratory of Archaeology and the Department
of Natural Resources, Division of Historic Preservation and Archaeology
as a result of the survey. A final report by Patrick and Cheryl Munson
and Ned Bleuer, all of Indiana University, Bloomington, is pending.
