I am entirely Sensible of your Goodness in taking So much pains to Satisfy me of ye Weight of my Beeves I beg you will please to pardon me for giving you so much trouble. The Detachment under my Command is now on the March to Fort Chiswel the Advancd Post on our S. Frontier.
About Ten days ago 200 Cherokees incamped within a quarter of a Mile of that Post, were Attacked in the Night, it is Supposd by Some Northern Indians, and lost Six upon the Spot, besides a great many wounded. Next day They deliverd up 50 women & children into Major Lewis's Care, & went out to see who had hurt them; how far they went, or what Success they had; I have not heard.
