THE OHIO VALLEY-GREAT LAKES ETHNOHISTORY
ARCHIVES: THE MIAMI COLLECTION
It is noted that the following work from the Miami Archives should be read and
considered within the historical context in which it was composed and printed.
The opinions expressed and the language used do not reflect the opinions or
standards of the Glenn A. Black Laboratory of Archaeology, but are, rather,
indicative of thought in that historical moment during which the document was
published.

I have just had the favour of Your Letter of the 8th, & I have now the pleasure to acquaint you that Mr. Croghan is now at Detroit with Pondiac and a number of Indians, whom he met near Illinois, and with whom he settled all matters for obtaining possession of that important place, in consequence of which Capt. Sterling & 100 men are marched there from Fort Pitt, this Affair is the more important, as it has been long attempted in Vain, and the gentleman sent up lately by the Mississippi in lieu of expecting anything were obliged to escape in the night & retire to New Orleans.
