Field School 2006 Preparations

Wednesday, February 8th, 2006

Hello - my name is Staffan Peterson and I will be directing the 2006 IU Field School in Archaeology at Angel Mounds State Historic Site near Evansville, Indiana. The purpose of this post is to present some basic information concerning housing. You are welcome to stay wherever you like. We can provide info on housing but it is up to students to make their own housing arrangements.

The best option we know of is rented dorms from University of Evansville. It is very near the site and has a communal kitchen and laundry rooms. Rent will be about $12/night or about $475 total. Contact us for this option.

Short term apartment rentals are possible at Village Green - when shared by three people this runs ~$450/person for six weeks - the catch is that you need to arrange roomates (others in your class perhaps?) and should reserve there asap.

Village Green Apts.

Another short-term apt. rental to investigate is Fielding Court Apts.

Both of these have a variety of short term rental options. We strongly suggest that students join up and share apartments. These options could really reduce your housing expenses, but you have to act early as they fill up fast. If you want to make contact with other students who would like to try this then contact me at “stapeter@indiana.edu” and we’ll try to put you in touch with the others who would like to share.

Next, the Super 8 Motel not too far from Angel, shared by two, runs about $700 a person incl. tax. for six weeks (phone 812-476-4008). Rooms have a fridge and microwave, which will help keep your meal costs down.

That’s it for now - if you have any comments or questions then leave a reply below.
