The Lithic Raw Material Repository at GBL has been created to facilitate a better understanding of regional raw materials. The repository documents and curates over 500 samples of lithic materials from throughout North America that were utilized by peoples in the Midwest. The collection can help archaeologists, universities, museums, and government agencies identify lithic types and create comprehensive lithic type collections. The type collection can be accessed at GBL with its accompanying database that includes source locations, photographs, and descriptions. Future goals of the repository include augmenting our lithic types, standardizing collection procedures, and adding sourcing and analysis data.
