The GBL welcomes all variety of researchers to access our archaeological, archival, photographic, and other collections.
Due to upcoming building renovations and a resulting collections move beginning in Spring 2020, we ask that researchers interested in visiting the GBL make an appointment. Please email firstname.lastname@example.org. You may be asked to fill out a collections access request form at the time you make your appointment.

The GBL building will be closed for renovation beginning May 2020. Some services and access to materials will be available elswhere on campus. More information to come!
- Access to the GBL and its collections by visiting researchers is by appointment only. Appointments should be made at least 14 business days before the requested date to ensure adequate staff are available to assist you. Please fill out a 'Research Request' form (pdf) and submit it when you schedule your appointment.
- Use of GBL’s data shall be for purposes of research and not be for commercial purposes. If the data is to be used for commercial purposes, such as environmental reviews and other historic preservation activities required by law and regulations, the data will be furnished in the form of a written report. Qualified staff will prepare the report, and the client will be charged the prevailing hourly rate for the time taken to prepare such report.
- The Library and Archives are non-circulating, and volumes, journals, or papers from the Glenn A. Black Laboratory Library or Archives are not available to be checked out. Permission must be sought to duplicate any materials held in the GBL library and archives. Generally such permission will be granted if copying will not damage the book or document and is not contrary to law.
- No records or portions of the collection will be removed from the building without the prior written approval of the Director and other appropriate paperwork.
