GBL collections as part of the IU Museum of Archaeology and Anthropology are comprised of objects, papers, maps, microfilms, photographic negatives and prints, slides, films, digital files, illustrations, and artwork. We also have collections designated for research as well as a large teaching collection.
While GBL collections focus on Indiana (with all 92 counties represented), they also include materials from 38 other states and at least 11 regions outside the USA, including Mexico, Africa, Argentina, Canada, Chile, France, Germany, Papua New Guinea, Peru, Spain, and Uruguay. Among these are artifacts from over 40 sites recognized by the National Register of Historic Places.
Research and writing about the collections is an on-going process. Basic information is available for the following areas: Archaeological Collections, Ethnohistory Collections, Image Collections, Library and Archival Collections, and Midwest Lithic Repository.
